William Karl Wilburn, the firm’s founder, has over 30 years of experience as litigation and arbitration counsel to domestic and multinational corporations, foreign governments, and private investors. These engagements include domestic and cross-border disputes arising from construction and infrastructure projects; government contracts; licensing and distribution agreements; energy, water treatment, and water purification contracts; and a wide range of commercial transactions. He has been counsel of record in over 100 arbitral, trial, and appellate proceedings. He has served as sole arbitrator or chair in over 50 domestic and international arbitrations; and as a mediator in over 35 mediations, with a settlement rate of over 75 percent.
Mr. Wilburn is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and numerous federal boards of contract appeal, district courts, and circuit courts of appeal. He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University (B.A.), the University of Baltimore (J.D.), and studied European and German law in Tübingen under a full grant from the German government. After law school, he clerked for Hon. Alan M. Wilner, Maryland Court of Special Appeals, and served as an Assistant Maryland Attorney General. For many years a former Guest Professor in International Contracts at Georgetown and University of Baltimore law schools, he has authored numerous professional articles and speaks often at domestic and international law conferences. He speaks fluent German.
